(VOVWORLD) - Imported pork and live pigs, and declining meat consumption have pushed pork prices down, helping stabilise the consumer price index.

Since the beginning of this month, pork has been sold at wholesale markets in HCM City for around 72,000 VND (3.17 USD), 8,000 VND (0.34 USD) down from previous months.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first seven months of this year Vietnam imported more than 93,000 tons of pork, mainly from Canada, Germany, Poland, Brazil, the US, Spain, and Russia, up more than 200% from the same period last year.
As of August, 36 companies registered to quarantine more than 4.7 million pigs arriving from Thailand into Vietnam.
The Ministry said there is no quota for imports of live pigs or meat.
