(VOVWORLD) - Preparations for a new academic year are underway across Vietnam.
The Nhan Dan (People) newspaper will present 1,300 scholarships worth 130 USD each to students in the Mekong Delta region at a ceremony in Can Tho city on Saturday.
The scholarships are funded by the Lien Viet Post JSC Commercial Bank. Nguyen Hong Sam, Head of the Nhan Dan newspaper’s Bureau in Can Tho, said: "This is the first time we have given scholarships to disadvantaged Mekong Delta students who have strong academic achievements. We care about students in remote and border areas and hope this program will encourage them to study harder."
A new campus of Huc Primary School in the central province of Quang Tri has opened, thanks to support from the Cargill Cares Foundation in Vietnam. The campus will accommodate students in grades 1 to 5 from Ho Le and neighboring hamlets. More than 80 of the students belong to the Van Kieu and Pa Ko ethnic groups.
The Mekong Delta's Soc Trang provincial authorities have been redesigning classes and improving infrastructure at schools for ethnic students in remote areas.
