(VOVWORLD) - President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation left Hanoi on Thursday for an official visit to Switzerland at the invitation of Swiss President Guy Parmelin.
This is Mr. Phuc's first Europe tour as the President of Vietnam. The visit is of great importance as the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. It demonstrates the close traditional friendship between the two countries and paves the way for stronger bilateral cooperation.
During the visit, leaders of the two countries will discuss ways to boost and uplift their cooperative partnership and make their bilateral ties more effective and practical in all fields including politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, development cooperation, culture, and education.
The visit will create an opportunity for the two countries to boost the signing of a Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Area which comprises Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein. This agreement is expected to boost bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, development cooperation, innovation, and digital transformation.
