(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc received in Hanoi on Sunday Japanese Defense Minister Kishi Nobuo.

At the reception, President Phuc, who is also Chairman of the National Security-Defense Council, said Vietnam treasures its Extensive Strategic Partnership with Japan. President Phuc praised Japan’s prompt support for COVID-19-affected countries including Vietnam. He asked Japan to continue to support vaccine and help Vietnam access vaccine supplies and other medical equipment and produce COVID-19 vaccines. President Phuc praised Japan’s stance on ensuring security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea and settling disputes through peaceful means in line with international law including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. The Japanese Defense Minister said Vietnam is Japan’s important partner in the region and pledged to continue to cooperate with Vietnam and the international community to soon contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
