President Obama said in the last 7 years, the US managed to overcome the global economic crisis from 2007-2009, created 14 million jobs, and reduced the unemployment rate from 10% in 2009 to approximately 5%. More American people have enjoyed health insurance and the number of children attending school has increased. Obama conceded that the US still has many things to do in the near future including preventing gun-related violence, coping with terrorism threats and protecting Americans’ safety.

President Obama said the US is on the right track in restoring diplomatic ties with Cuba. He urged the US Congress to remove the embargo on Cuba. Obama also called on Congress to authorize the use of military force against ISIS and approve the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement. In his final State of the Union address,  Obama expressed regrets over some pending issues during his presidency. Mr Obama expressed regret at the highly partisan tone of debate in Washington and admitted he had failed to bridge the political divide, saying "It's one of the few regrets of my presidency, that the rancor and suspicion between the parties has gotten worse instead of better". Concluding his speech, the US President expressed his belief in the future of the US and Americans and in change.
