(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese and US leaders shared the view that bilateral relations have achieved practical results and benefited the two countries’ people. President Tran Dai Quang made the statement during a joint media breifing with his US counterpart Donald Trump in Hanoi on Sunday.

Mr. Quang said that during President Trump’s state visit, both sides issued a joint statement on deepening the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership under the principle of respecting each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political system. The visit marked an important milestone in bilateral ties and created strong momentum for the effective and stable development of the two countries’ partnership.
The Vietnamese President said both sides will increase bilateral contacts and dialogues, particularly the exchanges of visits and meetings on the sidelines of regional and global forums.
President Trump said the US and Vietnam over the past 2 decades have together sought similarities based on shared interests and created connectivity to reach the current level of bilateral ties, which have been reflected through his Vietnam visit.
The US leader congratulated President Tran Dai Quang for successfully hosting the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Da Nang. He repeated the US’s commitment to a free, open, and independent Asia-Pacific which respects sovereignty, the rule of law, and responsible trade.
