After reviewing the Honorary Guard, President Thuong observed a minute of silence to pay respect to the fallen soldiers.
The famous landmark is dedicated to Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a unified Italy, and is renowned as one of the most beautiful structures in Rome.
On Wednesday evening, President Vo Van Thuong and his wife attended a state banquet hosted by Italian President Sergio Mattarella and his daughter.
Addressing the event, President Mattarella stressed that both sides need to make more efforts to deepen and diversify bilateral relations in the coming time.
Mr. Thuong said that over the past five decades, on the solid foundation of friendship, Italy and Vietnam have become each other's increasingly important partner in all fields, from politics and diplomacy to trade, investment, culture, tourism, education, and training.
He added that today, in a world of constant change, with many intertwining opportunities and challenges, bilateral cooperation is expanding continuously toward the values and shared concerns of the international community.
