The meeting followed a phone talk on Friday between General Secretary To Lam and US President Donald Trump, during which Vietnam expressed its willingness to negotiate toward reducing import tariffs on US goods to 0%, and proposed the US adopt a similar approach for Vietnamese exports.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized the need to promptly compile a detailed list of goods for negotiation. He said: "We're ready to negotiate with the US to reduce tariffs of US imports to zero percent. Vietnam proposes that the US adopt similar tariffs on Vietnamese goods. This is our major message. We also need to prepare a list of goods to buy which will be decided by the government. This is what we need to do immediately to prepare for Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc’s upcoming working visit to the US."

The Prime Minister stressed the need to get prepared for any situation.
On Saturday night, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc is scheduled to depart for the United States for a working visit.
