(VOVworld)- Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has concluded his 3-day visit to Japan after attending the expanded G7 Summit as his aircraft touched down Noi Bai airport, Hanoi on Sunday morning.

During his stay in Japan, PM Phuc attended the plenary session of the expanded G7 Summit in Mie prefecture. He shared concerns of G7 and ASEAN countries over challenges to peace, security, and maritime and aviation security, safety and freedom in the East Sea. He called on involved countries to refrain and address disputes by peaceful measures in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), enhance trust-building measures and preventive diplomacy and work towards the early formulation of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

During bilateral meetings with world leaders, PM Phuc emphasized Vietnam’s efforts to befriend with all countries and to be a reliable partner in the international community. He said he hopes for their support for Vietnam to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-2021 and the UNESCO Director General for 2017-2021.

After attending the expanded G7 Summit, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc held talks with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in Tokyo on Saturday. The two leaders agreed on specific measures to lift the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership to a new height.
