Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung wraps up visit to Haiti

(VOVworld) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung left Port-au-Prince city on Friday successfully concluding his official visit to Haiti, Cuba and the Netherlands, where he attended the 3rd Nuclear Security Summit. During his visit to Haiti at the invitation of Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Salvador Lamothe, Dung met and held talks a number of Haitian leaders. In a meeting with President Michel Martelly, Dung said Vietnam respected and wanted to deepen its relationship with Haiti. The Haitian President said Haiti wished to expand cooperation with Vietnam, so it had opened its Embassy in Hanoi, which is Haiti’s only diplomatic office in Southeast Asia. The two leaders agreed on the need to heighten their political, economic and cultural cooperation on a par with each side’s potential.

Following the meeting with the Haitian President, Prime Minister Dung held talks with his Haitian counterpart Laurent Lamothe. The two Prime Ministers agreed to further bilateral ties through increasing visit exchanges, boosting the establishment of a Joint Committee for Trade and Investment, and expanding cooperation in telecommunications, agriculture, food security, energy, construction and trade. They pledged to promote the bilateral cooperation between their organizations and enterprises on the basis of mutual benefit.

After the talks, the two Prime Ministers signed a Joint Statement between Vietnam and Haiti and witnessed the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on energy cooperation.

The same day, Prime Minister Dung met the National Assembly Chairman and President of the Haitian Senate Simon Dieuseul Desras and National Assembly Vice Chairman and President of the House of Representatives Jacques Srevenson Thiloleon. Dung also laid a wreathe at the Monument of Haitian Heroes and visited NATCOM- a telecommunications joint venture between Vietnam and Haiti. In the evening, Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe held a banquette in honor of his Vietnamese guests.
