During the last two days, Prime Minister Chinh and ASEAN leaders agreed on major directions for ASEAN’s future cooperation. The summit highlighted the message about stronger solidarity and cooperation in new areas toward sustainability and inclusiveness.

Prime Minister Chinh discussed with leaders of ASEAN countries different ways to strengthen cooperation in economics, trade, investment, security, defense, culture, education and people to people exchanges.

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, in an interview about the outcomes of Prime Minister Chinh’s trip, said opinions raised at the various events reflected the determination to work hand in hand to build a truly people-oriented and people-centered community.

Son said PM Chinh and the Vietnamese delegation sent out many important messages during the summit including those on the solidarity of ASEAN, in which to make substantive and effective contributions to the ASEAN Community building, and the Vietnamese Party and State’s consistent viewpoint of considering ASEAN a vital and integral part of the country’s foreign policy.

PM Chinh’s remarks were aimed at suggesting ideas, inspiring self-reliance, and unlocking resources for the development of the ASEAN Community.

The summit adopted 10 documents, including Joint Statements on the development of electric vehicles within the ecosystems in the region, the ASEAN One Health Initiative, and agreements to promote regional payment connectivity, enhance transactions in local currency, establish the ASEAN Village Network, combat human trafficking due to the abuse of technology, protect migrant workers in crisis situations, and protect and promote the rights of migrant fisherman, and a roadmap for the admission of Timor-Leste as an official member.
