The deputies assessed that by the end of 2023 Vietnam achieved and surpassed 11 out of 20 indicators of the “National Strategy on Gender Equality until 2025”. 12 indicators were higher than those seen in 2022.

Truong Xuan Cu, a National Assembly deputy for Hanoi, said: “The most impressive result in implementing the national targets on gender equality are in the political arena. A very high proportion of female cadres have taken key positions in the State and the National Assembly. Almost all provinces have key female officials. This is a great demonstration that reaching national targets makes gender equality issues more concrete and effective.”

Nguyen Hoang Bao Tram, a National Assembly deputy for Binh Duong Province, said: “Of the 20 indicators, three are directly related to the contribution of female workers. Over 50% of women have jobs. When women have jobs, they affirm their position in society. It’s a clear sign of progress in gender equality.”

Some deputies expressed their concern over the widening of the sex ratio at birth. Hoang Thi Thu Hien, a deputy for Nghe An Province, said: “It’s necessary to recognize gender equality in a more substantive way. To better control the unbalanced sex ratio at birth, it’s important to improve public awareness and behaviors by organized communication campaigns with clear messages to create social consensus.”
