The demands sent to Qatar by Saudi Arabia and its allies were unrealistic and not actionable, said Qatar’s Foreign Minister Abdulrahman Al-Thani at a Tuesday press conference with his German counterpart Sigmar Gabriel in Doha. He said that the request to shut down Al Jazeera television violates freedom of speech. Doha is constructive and pursuing a solution based on dialogue, he added.
Gabriel said Qatar has shown restraint in reacting to the diplomatic and economic blockade and other parties should respond in a similar spirit. Gabriel added that Germany and Europe are willing to assist any dialogue among the parties.
