(VOVworld) - A 22.6 meter-tall flag pole claiming national sovereignty was inaugurated at the Tran outpost island in Co To district, northern Quang Ninh province on Saturday.

The construction of the flagpole started in March 2015 at a cost of nearly 100,000 USD, funded by the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) and the remainder raised by the Quang Ninh provincial youth union. Nguyen Long Hai, Secretary of the Central Youth Union and President of the young pioneers’ organization, said: “The construction work symbolizes patriotism of Vietnam youth and students. We aim to educate and encourage patriotism and raise the young’s awareness of sea and islands sovereignty”.
