Reunification Day celebrated across Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - HCM city celebrated the 48th anniversary of National Reunification Day (April 30) with spectacular fireworks shows on Sunday night.

The 15-minute fireworks displays began at 9pm simultaneously at Dam Sen Amusement Park and the Saigon River Tunnel.

“We are here to celebrate the national reunification anniversary. Everyone is very happy and excited,” said Nguyen Viet Kien, a local resident.

In the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh, thousands of people visited a temple dedicated to President HCM in Long Duc commune on Sunday.

“I bring my grandchildren here to pay tribute to President HCM on the occasion of reunification day. They are interested in historical relics,” Visitor Huynh Van Sa said.

The temple was built in 1970, featuring a worship place, a space displaying documents and objects relating to President HCM, a replica of President Ho’s house on stilt in Hanoi, and a camping area.

Meanwhile, a 4-day hot-air balloon festival kicked off in Can Tho city on Sunday, featuring 30 hot-air balloons of different shapes and sizes. Visitors can take a ride on a balloon to have a bird’s eye view of the entire Mekong Delta city.

“The balloons are diverse and colorful. This is an opportunity for Can Tho residents to experience a balloon ride and have a panoramic view of the city,” said Nguyen Tran Thai Duong is a student of Can Tho University.

Workers in Vietnam are entitled to a five-day holiday lasting from Saturday to Wednesday to celebrate the Hung Kings' death anniversary, Reunification Day, and May Day.
