Revised Criminal Code: Prisoners allowed to join social insurance - ảnh 1 Head of the National Assembly’s Committee for Judicial Affairs Le Thi Nga

Head of the National Assembly’s Committee for Judicial Affairs, Le Thi Nga, said detainees’ right to join voluntary social insurance schemes receives support from deputies. She said: “The National Assembly Standing Committee agreed that prisoners’ participation in voluntary social insurance shows state lenient policy. This will ensure convicts’ social welfare, especially those who have entered social insurance schemes.”

During their discussion, deputies agreed on revision permitting detention camps to cooperate with businesses to allow prisoners work for re-education and income generation. Deputy Nguyen Van Hien representing Lam Dong province said: “To ensure transparency in prisoners’ work plans in administration and education, I call for a clear percentage of salary paid to prisoners. This will encourage them to work during imprisonment for financial reservation after release.”
