(VOVworld) -  Seoul on Thursday protested a series of rocket firings conducted by Pyongyang, calling it an extremely provocative act to destabilize the Korean peninsula.

According to France’s news agency AFP, the South Korean Defense Ministry expressed deep concerns about North Korea’s firing of two short-range ballistic missiles on Wednesday from an outpost in North Korea's western region. Kim Min-seok, a South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman, said Seoul considered the latest launches a seriously provocative act by Pyongyang targeting South Korea and the international community because the firings have destabilized the Korean peninsula and violated UN resolutions.

US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the launches, the fourth round in less than two weeks, heightened tension in the region. She urged Pyongyang to honor its international obligations and commitments.
