Russia blames the West for causing Ukrainian crisis

(VOVworld) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Saturday said the current crisis in Ukraine took place as the West failed to implement signed agreements on February 21 between President V.Yanukovych and the opposition.

Mr. Lavrov said on February 21 Russia joined the related parties to sign an agreement to solve Ukraine’s crisis. Under the agreement, the West committed that if Yanukovych fulfilled his tasks, it would persuade the opposition and prevent Ukrainian ethnic extremists from controlling the reform process. According to the Russian Foreign  Minister, the West failed to keep their promise which was the main cause for the political crisis in Ukraine. The UN Security Council has cancelled its urgent meeting 5 times within a week to deal with Ukrainian crisis.

In another development, nearly 3,000 people have joined a demonstration in the central part of the city of Donetsk, Ukraine to ask for a referendum on the status of the Donetsk Basin. Many demonstrators showed their support to People’s Governor Pavel Gubarev, the founder of the People’s Militia of Donbass. Earlier, under Kiev court’s ruling, Gubarev was arrested for 2 months for attempting to overthrow the government by violence.
