Russia, China veto resolution on Syria
For the third time Russia and China, two permanent members of the UN Security Council, have vetoed a Security Council resolution imposing non-military sanctions on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, if he fails to withdraw troops and heavy weapons from Syria’s largest cities in the next 10 days. Russia’s UN envoy Vitaly Churkin said Moscow opposed the resolution because it could open the door for military intervention into Syria.
