(VOVworld) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has proposed establishing a channel of direct military talks with Washington about airstrike campaigns in Syria to strengthen the effectiveness of these campaigns against the Islamic State. He said Russia is also prepared to establish contacts with the opposition group the Free Syrian Army. He added that Iraq has not yet officially proposed conducting anti-IS air strikes in Syria.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the Russian military has hit nine IS targets in Syria in the past 24 hours. In the northwestern province of Idlib, the Russian military said it had destroyed a training camp near the city of Jisr al-Shughur, artillery positions near Jabal al-Qobeh, and many armored vehicles. A command centre in the coastal region of Latakia and a command centre near the town of Rastan were also attacked.
