Russia records its worst single day of COVID-19 deaths
(VOVWORLD) - Russia has reported 857 new coronavirus-related deaths, a single-day record since the pandemic began. The daily death toll, the second consecutive day a record was hit, brings Russia's total deaths from COVID-19 to more than 206,000.

A surge in new infections began last month in Russia when its vaccination rollout started to slow down. For a week transmissions have been rising in Moscow, Russia’s current COVID-19 hotspot. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the situation is worrisome and advised city residents to refrain from traveling.
Globally, 234 million COVID-19 infections had been reported as of Thursday, with 4.8 million deaths, according to worldometers.info. 210 million patients have recovered.
US has been the hardest-hit country, with 44 million infections and 713,000 deaths, followed by India and Brazil.
