(VOVworld) - Russia wants to reinstate its good relations with Turkey but Ankara must first take necessary steps, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a conference on Wednesday.
According to Peskov, President Vladimir Putin has made it clear that after Turkey shot down a Russian warplane last year, normalization of ties will be possible only if Turkey apologizes and pays compensation.

In November, 2015, Russia accused Turkey of shooting down a Russian Sukhoi-24 warplane near the Syria–Turkey border. Ankara said the Russian jet had violated Turkey’s airspace. Moscow denied the accusation and insisted that the jet had been operating in Syria’s airspace.
