(VOVWORLD) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday stressed Russia’s motto of strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security as Russia assumed the BRICS chairmanship on January 1st.

In his address to BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), Putin said Russia will focus on positive and constructive cooperation with all countries concerned.
Putin said that during its chairmanship, Russia will promote the partnership in three key areas: politics and security, economy and finance, and cultural and humanitarian contacts.
Russia’s priorities include promoting cooperation in science, high technology, healthcare, environmental protection, culture, sports, youth exchanges, and civil society.
