Russia, Syria intensify attacks on insurgents in Syria
(VOVWORLD) - Russian and Syrian jets have escalated strikes on rebel-held Idlib and Hama provinces, several days after jihadist rebels opened an offensive against government-held parts of northwestern Syria.

The bombing campaign on Sunday came shortly after a tripartite deal struck by Russia, Turkey and Iran to deploy an observer force in Idlib. The Russian Ministry of Defense said the strikes were aimed at insurgents but Western-vetted rebels said the Russian attacks targeted the Free Syrian Army groups who had signed the ceasefire agreements Russia had promoted.
