Russia, US to hold talks despite Snowden
Mr Snowden has been granted temporary asylum by Russia |
(VOVworld)- The Kremlin says it is "disappointed" the US cancelled bilateral talks in September, after Russia granted asylum to intelligence leaker Edward Snowden, but said it will continue to cooperate with the US in bilateral and multi-lateral forums. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Russian foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov said that the decision showed that Washington was not ready for a balanced bilateral relationship. Despite this, Yuri Ushakov said that the invitation for the bilateral summit was still open. He said that President Obama cancelled the visit because Russia had refused to extradite Snowden at the request of the US, adding that the US had delayed the signing of an extradition agreement with Russia and Washington had often taken this as a reason to refuse Moscow’s extradition requests.
