Russia warns of 2nd COVID-19 outbreak this fall

(VOVWORLD) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that a second wave of the coronavirus epidemic can hit Russia this fall although Russia’s current outbreak is being controlled.

He said thanks to early testing, Russia has controlled the epidemic and prevented overloading for the healthcare system.

Deputy Prime Minister Tachiana Golikova said Russia is expecting a spike in mortality in May. She said doctors are trying to save the maximum number of patients, adding that Russia has never covered up the number of deaths due to COVID-19.

As of 10 am Saturday, the world has confirmed more than 5.3 million COVID-19 patients and 340,000 deaths. The US remained the most affected country with 1.6 million infections and more than 97,000 deaths.
