(VOVworld) - 2 more MI 171 helicopters took off from Ca Mau airport Tuesday to a location where some suspicious objects have been sighted to search for the missing Malaysian jet.

According to the latest report of the National Committee for Search and Rescue, 6 Vietnamese planes and 7 ships are searching an extended area northwest of the initially targeted area.

The search command center on Phu Quoc island set up 2 hotlines to monitor search and rescue operations. Deputy Minister of Transport Pham Quy Tieu assigned 3 AN26 aircraft flying under the height of 1,500 meters and 2 MI 171 helicopters flying at a lower altitude to accompany the naval ships involved in the operation. Tieu told reporters that Vietnam will do its best to find the mysteriously vanishing airplane.

Foreign search teams involved in the search include 2 planes and 7 ships from Malaysia, 2 planes and 2 ships from Singapore, and 2 ships from China. Operations are concentrated near the site where contact was lost and south of Con Dao island. Teams have prepared their equipment and personnel for a possibly very long search.

Chinese insurance companies will pay out claims to the families of the jet’s passengers. The first payment is normally delivered 24 hours after the accident is confirmed.
