This is not only a humanitarian mission, but also a symbol of reconciliation, reflecting the spirit of compassion, putting aside the past, and moving toward the future.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Do Hung Viet, head of the Vietnamese mission, said: "The search for American soldiers missing in action in Vietnam began immediately after the signing of the Paris Agreement in 1973, reflecting Vietnam’s commitment to honoring its agreements with the US. I deeply appreciate the spirit of compassion of Vietnamese people. It shows the vision of Vietnam’s leadership. "
US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper said this is not just a humanitarian mission but a model of Vietnam–US cooperation in addressing war legacies, and a powerful symbol of reconciliation between the two countries.
Over the past decades, Vietnam has located and returned over 1,200 sets of remains to the US, aiding in the identification of more than 735 US servicemen.
