Addressing the Forum, Macron said: "We are experiencing an unprecedented crisis in the international political and economic system. The system has been effective for 70 years since World War II, helping hundreds of millions of people escape poverty, helping several regions achieve peace and stability, and helping to establish an unprecedented system for balance control. However, in recent years, the system has allowed new inequalities to emerge. A crisis of democracy has allowed unilateralism to be reborn.”
Following the opening session, delegates reviewed the results of projects ratified at the first forum a year ago.
A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung is attending the Forum. Speaking at a session on the 70th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions, Mr. Trung said Vietnamese people, even during wartime, honor humanism and fundamental human rights such as freedom and independence. Vietnam’s participation in the Geneva Conventions reflects its respect for international law, human rights, and a tradition of peace and humanitarianism. Mr. Trung said Vietnam always does its utmost to honor the commitments of the Geneva Conventions and other international humanitarian laws.
“We are here to show our willingness as a country that loves peace and wants to contribute to peacekeeping efforts and share Vietnam’s experience in related issues,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Trung.
