(VOVWORLD) - The second cohort of US Peace Corps volunteers arrived in Hanoi on Tuesday to further support the Ministry of Education and Training’s (MOET) national priorities for English Language Education and meet bilateral commitment to education and training cooperation under the US – Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, according to the US Embassy in Hanoi.

The volunteers are set to collaborate with local teachers in Ho Chi Minh City, starting in January next year, to co-teach English classes and help Vietnamese students enhance their English skills for better educational and employment opportunities.

Peace Corps Vietnam fully aligns with MOET’s objectives and is enabled by the Implementing Agreement signed in 2020 between the US and Vietnamese governments, with Peace Corps and the Ministry of Education and Training as Implementing Entities.

Over the next 10 weeks, the volunteers will undergo comprehensive training to enhance their knowledge and skills, enabling them to adapt to the local context and work effectively within Vietnam's educational system. The training program includes Vietnamese language classes, Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) sessions, familiarization with the school environment, and practice of co-teaching models with local teachers.

Peace Corps Vietnam, along with its volunteers, remain committed to fostering bilateral relations and strengthening connections between people of the two countries, says the US Embassy.

Currently, Peace Corps has nine volunteers serving in Hanoi.

Peace Corps is an independent agency under the Executive Branch of the US Government, operating a volunteer program focused on providing assistance to host governments in their development priorities.
