Security Council renews mandate of UN peacekeeping mission in DRC

(VOVWORLD) - The UN Security Council on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution to renew the mandate of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for another year – until December 20, 2022 – and discussed the situations in Syria and Ethiopia.

Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the UN Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy called for constructive dialogue between parties in Syria and stressed the importance of international support for Syria, strengthening humanitarian assistance, and developing a comprehensive post-conflict recovery that will ensure self-sufficiency for the Syrian people.
Ambassador Quy emphasized the role of UN agencies such as the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) in supporting humanitarian activities in Ethiopia. He reiterated the principle of not interfering in the internal affairs of countries and settling disputes by peaceful means, and called on the international community, especially the African Union, to promote dialogue, build trust, and provide humanitarian assistance to Ethiopia.
