(VOVWORLD) - Paris police on Thursday began blocking Parisians and tourists alike from accessing areas near the River Seine ahead of an ambitious Olympics opening ceremony set for July 26. Anyone looking to access the riverside security barrier will need a special QR code.
The opening ceremony will see thousands of athletes and performers parading along a 6-km stretch of the river towards the Eiffel Tower at sunset.
France's plan to use the Seine River for the opening ceremony with 320,000 people is unique but challenging for security.
About 35,000 police and 18,000 mobile soldiers will be mobilized to ensure safety during the Olympics. Additionally, 1,750 security personnel from nearly 40 countries will be sent to France to help ensure security for the sporting event.
