(VOVworld) – A seminar entitled “Promoting women’s political participation-sharing experience and initiatives in Asia Pacific”, opened in Hanoi on Tuesday. Delegates agreed that Vietnam has achieved significant progress in ensuring gender equality. Vietnam fully abides by its international commitments on gender equality, women empowerment, and was recognized by the UN as one of countries with early completion of several Millennium Development Goals or MDGs, including those on gender equality. Vietnamese women have played an increasingly important role in society with enhanced political participation. Participants proposed to the Vietnam Women’s Union measures to make recommendations to the Politburo, the National Assembly Standing Committee, and the National Electoral Council, to devise appropriate policies to ensure women’s political participation in Vietnam.
