Along with the Dien Bien Phu victory in 1954, the Agreement was the pinnacle of the Vietnamese resistance war against the French colonialists, Minister Son said.

"This symposium is a great opportunity for us to review the valuable lessons of the Geneva Conference and the Geneva Agreement that are still relevant to the cause of national construction, development, and defense," said Minister Son. 

Politburo member, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA), and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council Nguyen Xuan Thang said the process of negotiating, signing, and implementing the Geneva Agreement was a handbook containing many valuable lessons in foreign affairs, demonstrating the unique identity of the Vietnamese diplomatic school and foreign affairs.

Building on the Geneva Agreement, Vietnam has pursued a policy of combining socio-economic development with national defense and security and foreign affairs. Vietnam considers foreign affairs an important and regular task and has promoted the pioneering role of foreign affairs along with strengthening security.
