(VOVworld) – Senegal’s President Macky Sall said on Tuesday that Senegal favors dialogue and consensus-building for settlement of conflicts as it began its term as a non-permanent member to the UN Security Council early this year. This term will run until 31 December 2017, together with those of Egypt, Japan, Ukraine and Uruguay. President Macky said the election of Senegal to the Security Council reflects all the considerations and all the credit that the international community attaches to Senegal. He added that this election will contribute in a “dynamic and positive way, to the handling of great issues which agitate the world, particularly peace, security, development, rule of law and democracy challenges”.

Senegal has joined the Council for the third time. Two previous terms was in 1968-1969 and 1988-1989 periods.
