(VOVworld) – The South Korean government held an emergency meeting on Monday to inform members of the diplomatic corps in Seoul about the spread of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and its efforts in dealing with the disease.

Speaking before diplomats and representatives from 79 countries and international organisations in Seoul, Deputy Foreign Minister Lee Key-cheol reiterated the government’s pledge to avert the disease’s spread. It was the first time Seoul held a meeting about infectious disease prevention, in a bid to prevent the spread from harming the national image.
On Tuesday, the Korean Health Ministry said that MERS had killed another patient and that 8 more infections had been reported. Since the first infection was reported on May 20, there have been 7 deaths due to the disease as well as 95 infected.
