Maersk of Denmark, Evergreen of Taiwan (China), and CMA CGM of France have all notified the SCA of their return to navigation in the Suez Canal early next week.
The number of ships passing through the Suez Canal increased significantly in the months before the recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea, according to Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.
In October, the total number of ships passing through this area was 2,345, a 10% increase from the same period last year. 12% of global trade passes through the Suez Canal, making it an important sea route connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea and one of Egypt’s main sources of foreign currency.
