France's Bureau of Investigations and Analysis (BEA) confirmed that the signal picked up by the French vessel Laplace had come from one of the recorders but didn’t say it was from the flight data or the cockpit voice recorder. BEA official Remi Jouty said the detection of this signal was a first step. It is expected to be at least another week before an underwater robot can recover the two flight recorders of the Airbus A320.
The search for the black boxes is intensifying. Egyptian officials said earlier that the search area was so large it made the search very difficult.
