Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong told the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington on Wednesday that Singapore is not a claimant state in the East Sea, but it supports the ASEAN’s efforts to negotiate with China in formulating a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).
Mr. Lee reiterated that international law has to play a greater role in settling the disputes, saying “from the point of view of a country which must survive in the international system where there are big and small countries, and that outcome cannot be determined just by might”.
