The two discussed the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue, stressing that achieving peace in the region will lead to a new reality where regional countries will have the space for social and economic development. The two officials stressed the need to reach political solutions to the different conflicts in the region while preserving unity, sovereignty, and the national institutions of the countries where these conflicts are taking place. Following the meeting, Pence held a press conference where he praised the economic reforms undertaken by Egypt, and said that the US stands with Egypt in its war against terrorism, expressing his sorrow for the recent terrorist attacks Egypt has faced. Pence left Cairo following a four-hour visit in his first stop in a three-leg trip to the Middle East, which includes Egypt, Jordan and Israel.
