SOM2 APEC: from digital trade to social protection

Major topics covered digital commerce, human resource development, social protection and alcoholic drink control. Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, SOM Chairman, was speaking at a workshop of APEC research centers network: “APEC cooperation focuses on 4 priorities of inclusive and sustainable growth for all members, regional connectivity, SMEs and micro businesses support, enhancement of competitiveness and innovation for better engagement in the global values chain in the digital era. Against the backdrop of globalization versus regional economic connectivity, APEC should ensure all people and businesses access to equal benefits generated by investment and trade liberalization.”
Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Doan Mau Diep, addressed a workshop on social welfare:“Social welfare is a long-term investment in human being and social economic development. The UN Sustainable Development agenda towards 2030 under the motto “no one is left behind” requires Asia Pacific countries unification to ensure rights about social welfare and its adaptation to demographic changes, social, economic, natural disaster challenges to fuel employment driving force. Social welfare programs should take into account aging populations and recognizing people with disabilities as an economic force.”
