In a statement, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said Seoul was ready to counter any acts of provocation from Pyongyang. North Korea test-fired a missile that failed immediately after launch early on Thursday, the U.S. and South Korean militaries said, hours after the two countries agreed to step up efforts to counter the North's nuclear and missile threats. US Naval Commander Gary Ross said in a statement that the US strongly condemned the North’s missile test considering it a provocative act and added that the US would express its concerns over the test at the UN.
