South Korea hopes for big step in 2020 toward genuine peace on peninsula
(VOVWORLD) - South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha on Thursday expressed hopes for a big step in the new year toward establishing genuine peace on the Korean Peninsula, despite growing skepticism over the stalemate in nuclear talks with North Korea.

Kang made the remarks during her ministry's kick-off meeting for 2020, saying this year's task is to take a big step forward toward ending confrontation on the peninsula, establishing genuine peace, and getting closer to the goal of building a peaceful Korean Peninsula free from concerns about an outbreak of war.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said Thursday that China wants no tension escalation on the Korean peninsula. Shuang called for continued dialogue and settlement of conflicts via suitable political solutions. The statement came after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Wednesday warned of a new strategic weapon, accused the US of buying time for its own interests, and said Pyongyang will stop negotiating with the US.
