(VOVworld) – President Park Geun-hye is likely to be questioned about her role in a corruption scandal, the South Korean prosecutors’ office reported on Sunday. The questioning, if it occurs, will mark the first time in Korea’s history that an incumbent president has been interrogated by prosecutors.

South Korea’s Constitution does not allow a sitting president to be prosecuted, but questioning as part of a broader investigation is permissible.

President Park is accused of revealing classified information to her close friend Choi Soon-sil, who is suspected of using her ties to the president to intervene in national affairs and get big conglomerates to donate 44 million USD to her two non-profit foundations. President Park admitted mistakes, saying that she is willing to answer questions from the investigating committee.
