(VOVWORLD) - An official said Monday that the Catalan parliament has been formally dissolved and its speaker will be leading a transitional committee of lawmakers until a regional election is held on December 21.

A parliamentary spokeswoman said Speaker Carme Forcadell cancelled a previously scheduled Tuesday meeting.
Spain's top prosecutor plans to bring charges of rebellion, sedition, and embezzlement against members of the Calatan government, including Forcadell.
The Catalan Democratic Party said on Monday that it will take part in a snap regional elections on December 21. Catalonia’s ousted president Carles Puigdemont has fled to Belgium, according to a government source. Catalonia’s La Vanguardia Newspaper said he went with several members of his deposed cabinet.
Spain has taken full control of Catalonia. Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy Monday announced the dissolution of the regional parliament and the removal of Mr Puigdemont as Catalan leader, and ordered that a new election be held on December 21.
