State President Truong Tan Sang made the statement at a conference held in Hanoi on Tuesday to review a program called “Tet for the poor and Agent Orange/ Dioxin victims, Spring 2015”. The President expressed his hope that humanitarian activities will continue to be carried out effectively and successfully:
“The Party and State always take an interest in poverty reduction, ensuring social welfare, and looking after poor and disadvantaged people. This is a long and noble task in which the whole society should participate enthusiastically. So the Party, authorities at all levels, organizations, and Overseas Vietnamese should continue to create favorable conditions for the Vietnam Red Cross Society to fulfill its key role in humanitarian activities. I urge organizations, individuals, and businesses at home and abroad to provide human resources for activities to help poor and disadvantaged people improve their lives.”
During 2015 Lunar New Year, the Vietnam Red Cross Society collected and distributed 2 million gifts worth about 33 million USD.
