(VOVworld) – A 7.1-Richter earthquake struck off Chile on Thursday forcing hundreds of people on Easter Island to flee their homes.

No casualties have been reported so far. The earthquake occurred 580 kilometers south of Easter Island at a depth of 15.5 kilometers. Local authorities had to order some 350 people to evacuate due to fears of a possible tsunami.
