Sub-Mekong region boost drugs prevention
(VOVworld) – A senior officials’ meeting of Sub-Mekong countries to discuss drugs prevention policy opened in Hanoi on Tuesday.
The General Director of Vietnam’s Police Department Phan Van Vinh said that over the past 20 years the cooperative mechanism for drugs prevention between Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime has become an important multilateral forum in the region. Delegates will discuss strategic solutions for the prevention of drug-smuggling and ways to increase the effectiveness of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the region.
Mr. Vinh said:
“The active involvement of member countries is crucial to the maintenance of cooperative mechanisms in the region. It requires countries to increase their role in formulating and implementing policies and strategies to control drugs as well as devising initiatives to mobilize more resources for work in the region.”
