Summit seeks “smooth sailing” for Vietnam’s economy
(VOVworld)- The Vietnam Summit 2016, an annual conference on external economics opened in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday under the theme “Smooth Sailing Ahead”.

The event, co-organized by the Foreign Ministry and the UK’s The Economist magazine, brought together leading voices from ministries, localities, international financial organizations, domestic and foreign businesses, and economists. Addressing the event, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said Vietnam’s agriculture utilizes approximately 70% of the labor force. Vietnam aims to reduce the figure to 40% by applying advanced technology in agricultural production. Vietnam plans to accelerate SOE equitisation, restructure finance and banking and focus on high-end human resource training. Minh said:“To develop high-end human resources, it’s necessary to focus on improving vocational training. Vietnam will expand job categories, combined automation and simple skills. Educational reform needs to be comprehensive and resolute.”
Minh said the Vietnamese Government was committed to creating transparent policies and providing the best possible conditions to ensure an equal and fair playing-field for enterprises and people. It has also encouraged localities to attract foreign investment, especially in industries using high technology, and create an effective competitive environment.
