(VOVworld)- Sweden's Supreme Court said Monday it has rejected an appeal by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange of his arrest warrant for alleged rape and sexual assault.
Sweden issued the arrest warrant in 2010 following allegations from two Swedish women, one who claimed rape and another who alleged sexual assault.
Sweden’s highest court said that it sees no reason to lift the order and investigators have begun efforts to question Assange in London about the alleged assault.
Assange has holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London since June 2012 to avoid British extradition to Sweden.
In March, Swedish prosecutors asked to question and conduct a DNA test on Assange in London instead of in Sweden as the previous request. The decision has created a breakthrough in a case that has been at an impasse for nearly five years.
